Leadership Greene- An Educational Program on Greene County
A program that provides a learning experience for existing and
emerging leaders of the Greene County area is one of the Chamber’s greatest
accomplishments. Participants of the program are given the opportunity to
develop an understanding of the issues Greene County may face and the way
Greene County operates. The program is modeled after the state’s
Leadership Georgia program and is held every other year.
The program is designed to be an educational experience and the objective is to
expose talented, highly motivated, potential leaders of Greene County to the
interrelated economic, government and sociocultural issues which, to a major
degree, determine the future direction of Greene County.
“On a personal note, my experience in taking Leadership Greene is
an eye opener to the “behind the scenes” of our county”, says Chamber President
Becky Cronic. “Residents and potential leaders do not normally go out on their own
and visit the places that The Chamber connects the class to. The county office tours, school tours,
Department of Family and Children Service presentation, agriculture
information, healthcare services, law enforcement, and economic development
department are all areas that people need to better understand to really get a
feel for the demographic and diversity of Greene County. I recall when I
participated in the class in 1999, I met people who I would have most likely
not met if it would not have been for being in the class. You find
yourself building relationships with people and having a better understanding of
the ins and outs of a community. This past year’s class was highly
interested in getting the word out about the community after participating.
They had no idea that what Greene County is all about.”
Russ Mitchell (Class of 2011) says that he thought “every newcomer should take Leadership
Greene. People make speculations about things before knowing details and
this was a way to see it firsthand”.
Greene County has had 165 participants to complete Leadership
Greene over the last 20 years.
How can I attend?
The participants are nominated by Leadership Greene alumni or you may submit a 2014/2015 application.
